Become A Billet Family: Host a Weyburn Beaver Player
The Weyburn Beavers are part of the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL), a summer league for collegiate level baseball players. Players travel across Canada, the United States and further to come play this high quality baseball.
Hosting a player for the season is a tradition in the baseball community and provides a safe place in which the players can become part of the community while living away from home. We find it to be a rewarding experience for both families and players.
The WCBL schedule begins the last week of May and goes to the first week of August, with potential to mid August, pending playoffs. It is a 56 game schedule with 28 games played at home and 28 on the road. During home games, we anticipate players will be at Tom Laing from approximately 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Road games will be longer days to allot for travel.
Expectations of a Host Family
The principle role of the host family is to provide food and accommodations.
Host families can, but are not expected to, prepare meals for their players. They only have to ensure nutritious food is available for player preparation of their own meals as necessary.
Players must be provided with their own private living/sleeping space away from the family. They will need access to laundry, a bathroom, and WIFI.
Transportation of players is not a requirement, however, on occasion, we appreciate if you do assist! Most players without vehicles will find another player to transport them or may wish to use a bicycle to transport themselves to and from Tom Laing.
Host Families are expected to set their own house rules for their player(s) as they see comfortable for their household. We expect our players to be respective of the house rules. If any problems do arise, please contact the Weyburn Beavers directly as we wish for the billeting experience to be positive for all parties involved.
